Upgrades to your heating and cooling system, insulation and other improvements will pay for themselves over time as they reduce your monthly energy bills, but the upfront costs can still be difficult for families to manage.
Fortunately, there are a number of incentive programs that can help to make home performance upgrades a reality for your home.
Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE)
Each state has a number of state, local, or utility programs to support homeowners. Understanding each state's programs can seem daunting, so we recommend using the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) to search for state-by-state energy efficiency incentives and policies. Browse the database by selecting your state on this interactive map.
We also featured incentive and rebate blog posts in a series run from 2017-18. The DSIRE website is the most up-to-date, but if you'd like to hear straight from your local utility or energy efficiency program, check for your state below:
Alabama Alaska California Illinois Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota
Missouri New York Oklahoma Pennsylvania Vermont Virginia Wisconsin

BPI is proud to work with the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program. Created by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this program partners with state and local governments to help homeowners make their homes more efficient.
Weatherization Assistance Programs
The Weatherization Assistance Program helps families within lower income brackets make permanent upgrades that improve the energy efficiency of their homes. The program has been running for over 30 years and has provided over 6 million families with assistance to help improve their home's efficiency, comfort, health, and safety.
